BYOB Artwork: Backyard + Outdoor Beauties! Creating wildlife artwork featuring the flora and fauna of the Midwest and Southwest.
Sonja Jones is an older "emerging" artist, having begun her artistic journey after age 50. She enjoys focusing on wildlife and nature themes, particularly those of Midwest America. She currently makes her home in Northeastern Ohio, where she is blessed to be surrounded by an excellent state park system, a nearby botanical garden, numerous marshes, and of course, Lake Erie! Her paintings often reflect the small birds and wildlife that can be encountered in one's own backyard or garden.
The artist is self-taught for the most part, but has benefited from the instruction of a few very talented watercolorist including David Rankin, Valorie Toliver, and the staff at the fine Valley Art Center of Chagrin Falls, OH. She is constantly learning and experimenting with new techniques and mediums. The majority of her gallery is done in the water-based mediums of acrylic and watercolor, but the artist enjoys trying out new substrates and applications for these mediums.
