I spotted this bird resting among the coneflowers in the gardens of the F.A. Sieberling Nature Realm in Akron, Ohio. It took me awhile to identify it, and at first I thought it was a yellow bellied flycatcher! Did you know there are actually over 427 different bird species listed as having been found in Ohio? But it turns out this one was not so uncommon, she is just the less brightly colored female version of the goldfinch!

I began painting in 2015, and my very first subject was my dog, Smudge. Which seems appropriate, since he is a dachshund and many of the great artists such as Picaso and Andy Warhol have owned and painted the dachshunds they adored!
