Description
I had a pair of blue jays nesting in the underhang of my home, and I desperately wanted some photographs of them. The male was constantly in the Japanese maple tree just outside my window, but I could never get a good shot of him with my handheld SLR. So my husband bought me a "Bird Cam", one of those motion triggered wildlife cameras that you just mount and wait. I went out to check the camera after the first day of setting it out, and excitedly saw that there were over 700 photos! Excitement soon turned to disappointment, however, as I discovered that the blowing leaves of the tree were responsible for almost all of the triggered photos! Out of 738 photos, only three had any piece of a bird in them, and none were what you could call a "great shot". With some practice and persistence, though, I was able to capture a few usable photos, and this painting is the result of one of them. My hats off to all the wildlife photographers who are able to capture those beautiful, sharp images - it's extremely difficult to get those shots!
